Mold also often grows in sponges and washcloths. This is because these are often damp, and damp is one of the main causes of mold. To keep your kitchen sink fresh and tidy, always rinse and squeeze out your clothes and sponges after use. Make sure that you replace them on a regular basis, too, as no matter how well you squeeze them out, they are still likely to contain mold spores that can blossom into mold.



Spraying your kitchen sinks with an anti-mold spray such as vinegar or a bleaching agent can also help keep mold at bay. However try to avoid toxic sprays or sprays that could harm the environment or your family. Where possible, use environmentally friendly sprays, and rinse down your benchtops and sink when finished.



Keep an eye out for mold growing in space-limited areas such as corners or underneath windows. These areas can be difficult to keep clean, and thus encourage mold growth. This is particularly true in very humid environments such as warm summers, or when you use a heater in winter. Try to keep these areas as clean and dry as possible, as this will discourage mold growth. Note that appliances such as humidifiers can also be a cause of mold, so if you must use these, use them with discretion. Alternate their use with other approaches to keeping your house cool, and try to dry down any areas that feel damp after using your humidifier. Being vigilant is the best way to keep mold at bay.
